Job Description:
Work as hall staff at a smart Japanese restaurant in Nishitenma, Osaka, serving a mostly business clientele. You start alongside a senior member of staff, bringing out hot towels, drinks and dishes. The food is course-only, so the only orders you take are for drinks. Around 90 percent of guests are entertaining clients, so you learn high-quality service from scratch, which is useful later in working life. The atmosphere is calm rather than noisy, with private rooms, and there are usually two or three part-timers on shift alongside the permanent staff, so you are never alone on the floor. Shifts run within 18:00 to 23:00 from 2 hours a day and 2 days a week, submitted every two weeks, with no overtime and no risk of missing the last train. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are off, as are Golden Week, Obon and the New Year period. Wages can be paid in cash in hand (手渡し tewatashi), and the head chef makes staff meals (まかない makanai) that vary daily, sometimes including fresh sashimi. Hair style is free and brown hair, nails and piercings are fine, though not in striking styles.
Wage:
1,300円~1,500円 (per hour) Late-night allowance (深夜手当 shinya-teate) of 1,625円 per hour. Pay rises as you gain experience, with long-serving staff on 1,500円. Same rate during training. Example daily pay: 6,825 yen for 4 hours plus a late-night hour.
